About weight-loss injections

How does the medication help me lose weight?

Weight loss can be achieved by eating the right foods in the appropriate quantities and being suitably active.  The medication helps this by supressing your appetite so you feel fuller and experience fewer food cravings, thus find it easier to stick to a weight-reducing diet.  In time, the aim is that you achieve a healthier weight and develop healthier diet and exercise habits that you can sustain long after discontinuing the medication.

Who is weight-loss medication suitable for?

The weight loss medication is authorised for adult patients with a BMI of 30 or more, as well as those with a BMI between 27-30 who also have weight-related health problems such as prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart problems.  Weight loss medications are not suitable if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant.

All patients must be assessed by the doctor who will decide if they are suitable for treatment. The doctor will review your medical history, measure your weight, height, body composition and vital signs such as blood pressure, and take a blood test to check for any underlying health conditions. Only once it has been determined there are no contraindications for treatment will our doctors prescribe the medication.

How do I take the medication?

It is a weekly injection that you inject yourself. Your doctor will show you how. If you would rather a doctor did the injection for you, we charge £75 to do the injections in our clinics in Henley or Reading.
