Steroid injections for joints and soft tissue
Steroid injections help reduce inflammation and relieve pain and discomfort in joints and tendons. The reduced inflammation can also help improve mobility.
All patients must first book a GP appointment (£150) so the doctor can assess whether an injection is appropriate. If it is, the injection can be given during the appointment. The injection costs an additional £170.

Steroid injections FAQs
How long do the effects of steroid injections last?
Pain relief is usually starts working within a week and lasts for 1-3 months.
Will it hurt?
When the needle goes in, it can sting. Often, however, the doctor will use local anaesthetic to numb the area first. Sometimes, patients experience a temporary increase in inflammation after the injection which can be painful; this should go away within 24 hours.
Are there any restrictions on what I can do afterwards?
-
If you have local anaesthetic, this may cause numbness to the area, so it may be best to avoid driving home.
-
It is advisable to avoid strenuous exercise for a few days afterwards.
-
If the injection is around a tendon, you may be advised to avoid strenuous loading or heavy impact activity for a few weeks afterwards.
Which doctors administer steroid injections?
Dr Mike Thomas and Dr Jo Goldie-Brammer have the specialist skills to administer steroid injections, each having over a decade of experience.
